Have you ever seriously asked the question of why you are here in this life? If you’re like most people, unfortunately you probably never have. Well, I didn’t either until over 10 years ago. Before that, I lived like everyone else: mostly, according to my own plan. I’m starting a new short personal story series to tell a little of my testimony of the process God has put me through to find and fulfill the purpose God planned for me before He created the world. If you want the answer to the most important question in this life, follow along! As the saying goes… “one person’s testimony becomes a prophecy for someone else.”
The Road Begins
I’m sure my story is a combination of both similar to, and yet very different, from yours. When I was around 12 years old, a series of events led me to realize I wanted to be in the Air Force and be a pilot. That was fine for a number of years until it became obvious God was not totally paving the way for me to accomplish my plan. For reasons I’ll save for a later time, I cannot say the plan I devised was not from God. Looking back, I know that some of it was but, I also missed some really big clues (and perhaps opportunities) along the way.
Without getting bogged down in the details, let’s just say that I spent 20 full years in the Air Force but, it was not at all what I had hoped for. An extremely small eyesight problem prevented me from fulfilling my desire to be a fighter pilot. However, being very strong willed, I decided I was going to fly regardless of the Air Force’s decision. And I did. At least to a certain extent. When I finally retired after 20 years, things began to change very drastically.
Right as I was nearing my 20th year of service, God more or less forced me (by circumstances) to begin the next chapter of my life in a very unpleasant and abrupt manner. Simply put, God would not allow me to stay one more year in my career. And… He also would not allow me to get any other job in order to live a normal life. Instead, He initiated me into a very uncomfortable and austere supernatural training program. Unbeknownst to me for the next several years, that is STILL God’s method of training someone for a high calling.
Here’s how my daily life looked from that day… Every morning, I woke up to the terrifying reality that I had no job, no income, and basically ZERO of the most valuable commodity that exists anywhere: FAITH. No kidding, I had spent my entire life actively involved in several different kinds of churches. Yet, 44 years later, God used my new circumstances to reveal that I had developed absolutely NOTHING useful during all those decades (just a bunch of religious garbage). And now it felt like I had been thrown into the ocean without a life raft.
A Supernatural Awakening (The Hard Way)
Suffice it to say, I had a lot of work to do. The daily panic attacks lasted beyond the first year. The only way I could survive them was by scouring the Bible to find all the verses that dealt with God’s promise of provision. I wrote down each verse I found on 3×5 note cards and read them over repeatedly. I taped them on my apartment walls and repeated them in my mind when I went out to walk or run.
It was the most confusing time of my life. Despite nothing making any sense about my new routine, I knew one thing clearly. I had one chance to make up for 4+ decades of having learned nothing in all those previous churches and I needed to begin a serious study to do exactly what the Bible says…
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Romans 12:2 (KJV)
In my spirit / heart, I knew what I needed to do. But, my mind fought it every single day. My mind became a battle ground for all out wars of unimaginable magnitudes. Sitting around not working in a job, with no income watching Sid Roth for 6-8 hours every day didn’t make an ounce of sense. No money was coming in but a lot of it was going out!
Regardless, I knew that if I had immediately went out and started working in another job, I would have lost the timing of God the opportunity God gave me to learn in a short time, what would have taken years in a normal life routine. There is a reason why Jesus mandates His true followers to give up everything and follow Him.
Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
Matthew 19:21 (KJV)
If you don’t do what Jesus said above, the distractions of jobs and normal living will prevent you from focusing on what He requires of you. Remember the passage… “you cannot serve two masters…” (Matthew 6:24)?! Looking back, it’s obvious God was highlighting that one point right there. My entire life had been lived on faith in a job to provide what I needed. In those conditions, everything was too easy. And God did not want me stuck in that place of modern day powerlessness and immaturity any longer.
Searching For Ancient Royalty
So there you have it, God had given me a “job” to begin learning to “seek first…” those things I had never before known. I had to trust that He would provide for me the things I was incapable of providing myself. But I was about to discover how extremely hard that was for someone who had spent decades of his life having developed effectively no useful level of faith whatsoever.
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Matthew 6:24 (KJV)
So this is how I began my diligent search for the true reason why God had put me here on earth for such a time as this. If you’re new to my website, you can find out more about my story in the second ebook I ever wrote right here below…
