If you’re like I was for the first 44 years of my life, you probably live your life based on what seems rational and intellectually smart. And if you’re Christian, you have all the Bible verses lined up to justify that lifestyle. Sounds good to most people and so it did for me during all those years. Until something came in and changed all that (ref Episode 1). And now we find out that God’s ancient methods of training someone for a high calling have never changed in the last thousands of years. Here’s why that is so…

The Ancient Training Program: Austerity

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

In episode 1, we did a quick touch-and-go on the idea that God requires us to give up everything and follow Him. During the first 44 years of my life, I lived with zero knowledge or awareness of the supernatural. Instead, I was 100% what the Bible calls an “earth dweller”. I called myself a Christian but in reality, my life was really no different than an atheist. The principles I lived by were the same as everyone else.

And then came the day when God shut all that down on me and I came face to face with the harsh reality that I had lived my entire life in a spiritual wilderness. My 4+ decades of church amounted to nothing more than a bunch of useless religion that produced no Biblical results whatsoever. Worse than that, certain areas of my life were beginning to follow increasingly after the ways of the world.

When God pushed me out of my career and forced me into a “sink or swim” situation, I really felt like I was going to die. As I referred to in the last episode, my mind could not handle the fact that God would not let me work in a job, pay my bills and have a normal life. Austerity was the new normal for me and none of the churches I had ever gone to taught about this.

Several years after God pushed me into this lifestyle, I began to understand why God could care less about our modern ways filled with convenience and abundance. As it turns out, there is only one way God can develop you into a status called “sonship” maturity where He gives you power over the elements of creation. In order to perform the same acts we read about with men like Moses, Joshua, Isaiah, the early apostles, etc, we must develop the same things they had.

Taken Out Of The World For a Purpose

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

God’s character training program has more facets than we can tell in this one episode so we will hit on them in the coming days and weeks. One of the biggest elements is the training to develop a level of faith that can cause the same manifestations as those we read about in the Bible. Since that is such a huge subject, we will deal with that later. Suffice it to say for now, the only way we can progress to higher levels of spiritual maturity are by very extreme training environments. This is the same thing you see in military special forces training, or Japanese karate movies, or superhero origin stories.

Austerity is God’s way of preparation that has not changed in thousands of years. If it were easy, you’d see everyone doing this. And if it were easy to develop the supernatural abilities seen performed by famous Bible characters, then it should be normal for all Christians worldwide. Except that it isn’t. Ancient powers only come by ancient training methods. The same is true when it comes to finding and fulfilling your true God-intended purpose.

And this is what I began to experience in 2015 when God pushed me into that strange and confusing situation I’ve been telling about. Remember, I had lived my entire life to this point without any belief in, or experience with, the supernatural. And this is where my fight began.

Breaking Free Of Gravity

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

How do you go from living 100% in the world, according to a severely limited intellect, to being able to fully function in the supernatural realm where the laws of each contradict each other? Let me tell you…

From my experience, it is extremely difficult! Just as Doctor Steven Strange felt it was impossible to develop the same manifestations as all the others at Kamar Taj, so was it also for me to learn to live and operate in God’s supernatural realm!

Take a look at something in our natural world of technology: rockets. How do they get into space? Is it easy? NO. Using our current methods, breaking free of gravity and getting out of the earth’s atmosphere is very difficult. The same is true for those of us who have lived many years as “earth dwellers”, devoid of God’s supernatural ways.

My fight to enter the supernatural realm was excruciating. I like to refer to that Marvel movie Doctor Strange (2016), because of how perfectly it illustrates my former self. The mind of the flesh cannot understand the supernatural ways of God. It must be broken free of that stronghold of limitations and that only comes by extreme efforts!

Fasting, praying, renewing the mind by meditating on what the Bible really says (not what the worldly church says), are critical practices to achieving this spiritual “anti-gravity” ascension. And that is what the next many years of my life looked like in God’s ancient training program. It is not a quick and easy thing. God’s method of training requires many years to complete!

So, what else did God develop in me during all this extremely unpleasant years of austerity? What were some of the things He was working to develop in me by this “death to self” program? Stay tuned, we’re getting there.
