The Time Value For Understanding A Dream (When The Meaning Is Hidden)

Have you ever had a dream that you thought you understood at first, only to find out two years later that you totally missed the real message? Yep. Truth be told, that’s happened to me a few times (including in a couple blogs I posted here in past years). Today, I want to tell what I’ve learned when God hides the meaning of a dream for a later time. In the process, I will show you two examples so you can see how the real meaning of a dream may be very different from what you might have imagined.

Sealed Understanding

But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

Daniel 12:4 (KJV)

Sometimes a dream has various possible interpretations but, you can’t figure out which is correct no matter what you do. Then, a year later, circumstances serve to eliminate one or more incorrect meanings. That leaves you with the one that is really true. That is exactly what happened to me last year.

I had a dream that seemed it was going to play out literally but, one year later, it became obvious that a literal interpretation was totally wrong. I was able to understand the real meaning when my wife told me about one of her dreams (that contained completely different symbols) and it triggered the answer to my mystery dream one year before.

Rather than talk in generalities, here’s both my dream and hers…

Two Dreams With Same Meaning

Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate,

Acts 10:17 (KJV)

Wife’s dream: I and my wife woke up in the living room of a beautiful model house that we had literally seen in real life 2 years ago. We had no idea how we got there and hurried to get up and get ready so the person showing the house would not see us there and know we slept in the house overnight.

My dream: I’m walking around a department store like Macy’s. It is mostly dark inside. Then, I leave the store and I suddenly realize I now have a new iPhone. I became scared not knowing how I got it and where my previous iPhone was. I didn’t remember buying the phone, it just appeared in my pocket while my real one at the time was nowhere to be found.

Decode Clues & Process Of Elimination

“Here is what I have found,” says the Preacher, “Adding one thing to the other to find out the reason,

Ecclesiastes 7:27 (NKJV)

Now that we have both dreams to consider, let’s look at how my wife’s dream became the decode clue for the correct interpretation of mine. Starting with the confusing element of my dream…

For the entire first year afterwards, I really felt like the new iPhone was a literal symbol despite the fact I’ve already had many symbolic dreams of phones. I could not understand how I would suddenly end up with a new phone but, trying to see it symbolically was just not on my mind (for lots of reasons).

I learned several years ago that iPhones can represent ourselves personally. They are miniature multifunctional computers that act like a brain. Getting a new phone in a dream can therefore mean getting a new life (as in upgrading your life experience based on various circumstances).

The reason I initially thought the new iPhone was literal is because at the time of the dream, I was living on basically no money. Getting a new phone in real life would have been a very big problem. That’s why, in the dream, I got scared having the new phone (ie: how was I going to pay for it?!) But, hang onto that thought because, as you’ll see in my wife’s dream, that single common element became the decode clue for both dreams.

When my wife told me about her dream (a full year after mine), I figured out nearly instantly what the correct interpretation was. I knew it meant that circumstances were going to change so fast for us that we would be astonished how quickly we ended up living in a house as beautiful as the one in her dream. It would happen so fast that it would catch us off guard. I knew her dream had nothing to do with literally sleeping in a model house that we didn’t own.

Therefore, the similarity of emotional reactions between both dreams became the clue to the true meaning of both. Both dreams had the same meaning but, it took one year for me to realize what mine meant. And that is a really good example of how God may give you a dream that has a time factor for getting the correct interpretation.

Follow Up Dreams

Although a topic for a separate blog, something to keep in mind here is that God may give you follow up dreams on matters that are very significant to you in personal ways. If you look again at my iPhone dream, you’ll notice that the store setting was mostly dark. Darkness often represents a lack of understanding on our part (being “in the dark”). When you see dark settings in dreams, keep an open mind about the meaning because God is saying there is something going on that you are not aware of right now.

In a subsequent blog, I’m going to deal with several more dreams where the setting showed this same kind of shrouding taking place. When we get to that one, you will see how the level of personal significance was also very high and there were very good reasons why God hid the meaning for a long time.

Let’s hold that thought for now and just consider how there are going to be times when you will have to wait for the true meaning of a dream to be revealed. When that happens, remember that the meaning is hidden for a reason that will become clear at the appropriate time.

Last thing… I have not said this in a very long time but, the only way you will be able to do what I said in this blog is by writing down all your dreams every night! When you do this (as I do always), you can go back through your journal and find all these connections. Make sure to record your dreams in a digital journal as well. That way you can do word searches to find that dream from two years ago that you suddenly realize you need to take another look at.

As always, thank you for reading and for supporting my work!!
