In the last 10 years, I have experienced the “valley of the shadow of death” many times. As I’ve said before, I spent 4 decades of my life in churches that programmed me with a defeatist and powerless view of life. When God pushed me out of my career and I had to live totally by faith, I found out how weak minded and full of fear I was. One of the biggest transformations I’ve made in these last few years has been in developing a strong mind and a faith that creates victories in all circumstances.
Total Victory Always
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)
When I began learning about the kingdom of God (after 40+ years of churches that did not teach that), I began hearing messages about having a mindset of victory and power. I have to say, it was like hearing a foreign language for the first time. My entire programming up to that point was in total opposition to any kind of belief in positive outcomes.
I was programmed to have a very weak mindset and I was not able to handle any kind of challenging circumstances the way God requires of us. That is what my previous 4 decades of mainstream church teaching had made me into!
In contrast, when you read the Bible, you find a repeat theme of faith, miracles and positive outcomes in the midst of very negative circumstances. It is impossible to read the Bible and say that you believe in that same God but yet, in your daily life, you have no belief in or expectation of any of the positive and miraculous outcomes as recorded there.
To say you believe in the God of the Bible, but you live your life in the opposite way really proves that you don’t actually believe anything. It makes you a hypocrite who contradicts what they say they believe by their mindset and actions that do the opposite in their daily life. Worse yet, you show all those you encounter that you have a dead powerless God that is not worth following. You are the opposite of an evangelist, you are doing the devil’s work! You make people want nothing to do with the only true God!
What I just said is a very simple and logical assessment but, I spent decades in churches that told me the opposite. Instead, those churches concocted a satanic lie that said effectively that the Bible was nothing more than a history book and for some unwritten reason, that same God mysteriously no longer was who He used to be.
Thankfully, in the last 10 years, I have been learning that when a negative circumstance arises that challenges your positive expectation, you have a choice. You either continue to have faith in the same positive outcomes that you read about in the Bible or you come down to a very low level and get into a negative agreement with the circumstances that are opposing you.
It’s About What You Agree With
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Ephesians 6:10 (KJV)
If I had tried to say this in earlier years, it would not have been legitimate. I can say it now in sincerity because of the number of very negative circumstances I’ve lived through and how they have been the training ground that has produced a real faith in me that I never had before. I’m not saying I do it perfectly but at least now, I have been through a process where I am increasingly able to fight against the negatives and not stay stuck in them.
Overcoming the strongholds of a religious system that teaches, intellectualizes and rationalizes the opposite of the Bible is not an easy process. I am not speaking today based on a theory. I have lived this and have seen the reality that the same positive outcomes in the Bible are all equally as possible today.
This was an extremely difficult thing for me to learn. I was not taught to have faith in my previous decades of church and I was not taught it in my family either. It’s not that no one tried to have a positive mindset but, overall, what they had did not go very far. It was extremely limited and any positive expectation ran out very quickly at the first sight of anything beyond the smallest of challenges.
Every time a negative circumstance arises in your life, you have the same choice. Either you are going to believe the negative and accept and agree with it or you are going to throw that down and cast it out of your mind and only speak and expect a positive outcome. It is a daily choice and, the more you practice this, the more positive results you will see and the greater your faith will become.
The Multi-Dimensionality Of Faith
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:57 (KJV)
If you cannot develop in this way, then you are never going to be able to operate in the supernatural marvelic abilities that I write about in my blogs. Marvel abilities all operate by faith and there are various levels of supernatural manifestations that each require different levels of faith. Moving things with your mind is one type of faith, walking on water is another, flying or transporting is yet another. Your faith is developed by the constant process of replacing a negative with a positive.
Not everything happens instantly just because we can believe for a positive outcome. Sometimes it is the length of your patience that is required. It’s about having the patience to see that positive outcome manifest in your life. So faith can have the time element of patience as well. If you only have faith for two days and on the third, it is gone, then you have very limited faith. That also is an agreement with a negative condition.
This has been one of the greatest challenges for me because the things God has shown me about my calling and purpose have taken a very long time to happen. Many times, I have become worn out and angry with the length of time I’ve had to wait. It was not until after I had been listening to the same teachings about faith over and over again that I began to realize this time dimension of faith was my problem. It’s not that I had no faith, but that my patience level was a little short.
As I am finishing up this episode today, I have been fighting all the negative and long term circumstances for the last several days. It’s one thing when you have negatives but it’s a very different type of war in the mind when you have been dealing with them for 10 years and the breakthrough you have waited for has not happened.
“Faith is positive expectation surrounded by negative circumstances.”
David E. Taylor
However, despite the extreme negatives, there are things you can do to defeat them and have the victory. The Bible says that God ALWAYS causes us to triumph (2 Corinthians 2:14). It says we always have access to the victory through Jesus. As I have learned about verses like this and the repeated Biblical theme of victory against all odds, the more I have been able to overthrow the evil mind wars that the devil has thrown at me and the circumstances that have opposed and oppressed me.
The key is partly about what I wrote above – replacing the negative with the positive Biblical truth that God is working everything out for our good and will give us the victory (Romans 8:28). The other key is one that we will discuss in the next episode. (Hint: you must control your environment and that includes the sounds you allow in your midst.)
