Have you ever had a dream where God showed you a part of your life calling but, you did not recognize the true meaning? I know that I have! In the last 10 years since I started my blog site, I’ve had a surprising number of dreams about what I do here. Many of those dreams showed that this website is “my job” and some even gave me instructions about what I was to write about (or not). In all cases, the dreams were symbolic and required some time and consideration before I was able to correctly interpret them. This week, I had another of those such dreams and it contained a clue about one aspect of my calling which I could have easily missed. If you are among those who want to know what a dream about your calling looks like (and how easily you can miss the message), this blog will be a very good example.

Dream: A Signature On A Large Electronic Board

May 9, 2025 – I’m signing my name on a large electronic white board that is laying flat on a table inside a mostly plain looking room. I sign my name normally at first but then, I’m supposed to do it again as a verification. However, every time I try to sign my name the second time, I keep screwing it up. I even signed my last name first and misspelled it repeatedly. Finally after several tries, when I hit the clear button to erase the screen, it doesn’t fully erase and there’s some writing still showing. No idea why I had to do this. 

Here are the primary symbols interpreted…

• White board = place of writing (literally) as in my blogs and related works; in Biblical terms, this would be a “tablet” or “table”; also, a white board is often used for illustrating a message in words or pictures to a group of people (for the purpose of teaching) (Habakkuk 2:2-3, Proverbs 7:3). 
• Large size = in simple terms, this represents a big work and describes the size of my writing assignment in my blogs, ebooks, etc.
• Signature = in the Bible, signatures were often used in the form of seals, which became an authoritative declaration about something written; upon researching this, there are 3 relevant meanings: 1) to signify, 2) declare, 3) preach (Acts 21:26, Romans 9:17, Luke 9:60, Ecclesiastes 8:4).
• First / second = double signatures indicates a “verification” and further supports the meaning of the signature as a royal declaration (Acts 21:26); the inability to sign correctly the second time represents my recent distraction which took my mind off blog writing (see below) (Hebrews 10:23, Revelation 3:11).
• Screen erase = the inability for the screen to fully erase had to do with distractions that were lingering in my mind which kept me from continuing in part of my assignment.

Very Significant Message, Easily Overlooked

Before we get into the details of what’s been going on in my life at the time of this dream, let me say that, on the surface, this probably does not look like a dream about a life calling. When I woke up from this one, I really had no clue what it was about. I wrote it down as usual but, I was confused about the meaning of the primary symbol: the signature.

As you will see below, that one symbol turned out to have quite an unexpected answer about a big piece of what God has called me to. Included in my interpretation below is the detailed study I had to do in order to understand the real message. Had I not gone the extra mile in researching these symbols, I might have gone the next several years of my life way off course from God’s plan. Let’s now find out what God was telling me in this dream…

Real Life Connections

In the days before this dream, I was becoming distracted with things which would be characterized by normal tasks of the natural world that we live in. I had just accomplished a huge goal of resurrecting one of my past professional skills as a pilot and it took much of my time, attention and effort. Following that, I began planning how I might continue that work in order to fulfill another goal as a pilot which related to my upcoming invention business.

All of this was the result of several years of God showing me that I would return to flying as a pilot and that it would be part of my calling in more ways than one. All that was good except that it started to become a huge distraction from my blog writing work. At the basic core of my personality is a technology-focused, business-minded guy who used to prioritize being a pilot above everything else. When God recently gave me the ability to return to my roots as a pilot this past year, it came with a bit of a test to see how I would handle that.

When I woke up from my above dream, I had no idea what it was about. I wrote it down as I normally do but, I hoped at some point that I would figure out its meaning. Notice the last line of the dream: “No idea why I had to do this.” That right there tells you there was a message in this dream that I did not see coming. When you get a strange element like that, it usually means you will need to do some extra research because one or more of the symbols has a meaning you have never heard before.

Thankfully, that same afternoon, as I was interpreting a dream sent to me by email, I got the starting point for the meaning of my dream. It was one single word “tablet” that appeared in the other person’s dream that got me thinking about the meaning of the large white board in my dream. As I began looking up Bible verses that contained that word, I then had a thought about the meaning of writing my signature.

“Declaring” A Present & Future Calling

One thing led to another and suddenly, the meaning of my dream began to be revealed. As I considered the symbols, I realized that this dream answered something I had been wondering about for some time. Yes, the dream once again emphasized my blog writing assignment but, it also went beyond that to hint at another part of my calling. Here’s what I mean…

For the last few years, I’ve said many times that I am primarily a business guy who happens to do a ministry type of work in my blog site. I do not at all consider myself to be a “preacher” type of person and I usually run away from any idea of that connection with myself. Having said that, some of my aversion to being in a form of “ministry” is due to past associations with how it is traditionally perceived (not very positively). True, what I do here is considered by most people to be ministry work but, I have just not seen myself in that way.

Now that I’ve said that, you can see how the meaning of my inability to sign my name a second time in the dream is starting to make more sense. Not only is this a dream pointing me back to my writing assignment here but, it also says that the reason I do this is for the purpose of “preaching” and teaching (aka: ministry work). Within that comes the connection to a theme of making a royal declaration (as a king in God’s kingdom). Again, we need to emphasize that the meaning of the signature is to signify (as an authoritative act), to declare and to preach.

As I was saying, the dream also hints at something yet to be revealed about the future. We know that I have an assignment as a global technology inventor but, how does this blog work tie into all that?? Simply put, this dream is God’s way of showing me in advance that I will be more than only the CEO of my upcoming technology corporation. Therefore, we now see that this is in fact, a dream containing a clue to a life calling.

Regardless, my recent dream once again confirms and establishes…

1. The continued necessity of my writing assignment as a Kingdom of God assignment.
2. An overlooked part of my present and future calling in terms of “preaching” and teaching in some form of ministry work (which means I am not limited to only being a future corporate CEO).
3. The fact that my invention WILL HAPPEN in God’s timeline exactly as Habakkuk says.

In summary, I want to emphasize again how the unexpected meaning of a single symbol (the signature) led to a whole unraveling of a much larger personal message as it relates to my calling.
