Let’s use a convenient illustration to discuss something that, unfortunately rarely ever applies in any significant form to most people who have ever lived on earth. I’m talking about something that is like a substance that you can acquire (but, only if you do). I want to highlight what is effectively two sides of the same coin – the fact that you have the potential to become an extremely valuable asset, or you can choose to throw that away and become… replaceable. While you’re reading this, be honest with yourself and use all my previous episodes as a measuring line to see whether you really are becoming what I hope you will be with this one life God gave you.
Very Few (By Choice)
For many are called, but few are chosen.
Matthew 22:14 (KJV)
I’m sure you’ve noticed from my 51 episodes so far that I continue using a repeated figure to not so subtly speak about one very big part of my God-given identity. I’ve said many times before that I am a very unlikely person to be in training to become what I never imagined possible at any point in my life.
I really want to emphasize the fact that in many ways, I was most unqualified for what God has chosen me to do. It was the process God put me in that has been developing me for something great. Likewise, if you do the same things as I have written about, you will be on track for something very big yourself.
So let’s now use that illustration I mentioned at the top. Not surprising to many, I’m talking about a primary character in the Marvel Avengers movies: Tony Stark. Imagine something for a minute. What if the one man who everyone turned to for technology solutions had never come on the scene? What if Tony Stark had just lived an ordinary life doing the same things everyone else does. What if he never followed in his father’s footsteps to invent a new form of energy that revolutionized the world?
Start looking at all the circumstances in those movies where his absence would have had catastrophic consequences. From Iron Man 1 to Endgame, Tony Stark saved the world (and the universe) from what we could call end times disasters or extinction level events. Sure, we can look at the other characters like Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner, Thor, Captain Marvel and many others and go through the same “what if” scenario. Any lack of those men and women would have left the world with serious problems and no solutions. And in all that, they were not perfect but, they still proved to be irreplaceable!
The Process To Becoming Irreplaceable
Thou, which hast shewed me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth. Thou shalt increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side.
Psalms 71:20-21 (KJV)
In those movies, each of those characters had unique abilities the others did not possess. But, if you look back at their origin stories, you can see that there were things they each had to do to become world saving superheroes. Each person made choices that led them down the path to greatness and each one had opportunities to decide whether to reach their ultimate destiny. There were NO guarantees while they were in their process of development!! But because they all kept going, they each became invaluable and irreplaceable.
If you do a search in the Bible, you will find that under the right conditions, God DOES in fact want to make us great and even to make our name great. We rarely think of it but here is something extremely obvious… In the Bible, we read about men and women like Isaiah, David, Elijah, Moses, Jehu, Joshua, Peter, Deborah, Esther and all the rest. What we miss is that these names are recorded because God intended that they would be remembered forever (whether good or bad). We read about the list of kings, by name, that either did or did not do ALL that God wanted them to do. This is a pattern that God uses as a way of making a record of a person, along with what they accomplished on earth in their lifetime.
When you look back at those names, you start to notice that some of them were indispensable (irreplaceable) and others, we were probably better off without (ouch). What makes the difference between them was the choices they made in their life and whether or not they went though God’s process to fulfill His FULL plan for their life. Not all of them lived up to their God-intended purpose (actually most did not). We also read in other places where a person was named once or twice but nothing else was ever said about them. If you are a thinking person, you might be wondering what they did with their life since nothing else was worthy of note.
Excuses Versus Opportunities
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Romans 1:20 (KJV)
My point here is that, looking historically in the Bible, some people proved to be irreplaceable but many others did not. Each person had the same opportunity to become something great but very few of those were strongly emphasized out of all the billions of people who ever lived. So what’s the difference between those that did versus those that did not? The answer it simply that some chose to seek and find and fulfill all that God intended for them and many others did not.
Those who did the most of God’s plan for their lives proved to be irreplaceable and invaluable. But it all came down to their choice to pursue God’s plan rather than live a humdrum existence that accomplished very little. Here’s the most important ACTION item for you right now…
It starts with a choice. True, you do NOT have to start at the time God really wanted you to (age 12: Luke 2:41-49) or the second time (age 17: Genesis 37:1-5). But, the longer you wait, the more time you waste and the more wrong things you must unlearn and be delivered from so you can then be properly developed to accomplish God’s purpose for you. Even if you were raised in a family that did not know or follow God, you still are expected to ask the right questions and to seek and find His truth! And if you are late in coming to that realization, you can still ask God to redeem the lost years of your life and believe that He will do exactly that!
With God, all things are possible, but with us they are not (Matthew 19:26). The most important thing here is, no matter where you are in life (or at what age), NOW is the time to find out what God intended for you so that you could one day be written down as a person who became irreplaceable in God’s sight. You can still do what very few others are doing for a world that is rapidly diving down the cliff to hell (YES, it really is that serious).
You do not need to be an inventor or preacher or whatever else. God is unlimited and His plans for us are likewise. God’s plans for me are NOT limited to a big global technology invention!! It goes FAR beyond that! Start down the process today and find out what that extremely valuable, irreplaceable plan that God has for you and don’t let anything (or anyone) stop you from fulfilling it all. It’s not easy. In fact it is very hard and will cost you everything. But, as I’ve been reminded many times – nothing else compares to what God has in store for you. Amen.
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
1 Corinthians 2:9 (KJV)
CREDITS for this episode go to the one man I’ve spoken about many times and acknowledged by name in previous episodes (I’ll let you go back and find that answer if you missed it so far!)
