In the last 10 years, I’ve seen many people who at some point have made decisions to break off from long standing relationships that are critical to their destiny. I’ve also seen how some of those did so because of life long character flaws that they never fixed. I have also been in a process where I’ve been confronted with many trials that could have either set me up for success or led to serious disasters. In all this, I’ve been learning how God puts people through many trials and tribulations for the purpose of setting them up for earthly and eternal success. In this episode are some of the top lessons I’ve learned about the process of validating someone’s character before they can ever be truly trusted.
Proving One’s Character: A Biblical Principle
And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience [proving, trial, approved, tried character]; and experience, hope:
Romans 5:3-4 (KJV) with Strong’s Concordance elaboration
In order to fully develop the theme in this episode, we could be here for several hours and I’d have to write far too many words to include in just one post. This subject is something I was never taught in my initial 4 decades of church but I’ve learned by experience that this is a matter of our eternal destination as well as for what we are to accomplish here on earth. All throughout the Bible are illustrations of how a person’s character must be proven by tests and trials.
King Saul failed miserably on more than one occasion and he was told by the prophet Samuel that God had rejected him as a result. Joseph exercised uncommon wisdom in testing his brothers on multiple occasions when they showed up in Egypt during the famine. Jesus told His disciples that because they endured many trials with Him, they would receive an eternal kingship position. Esther was given a choice to either do what her uncle strongly urged (ie: commanded) her to do or else she would be wiped out and replaced by someone else who was up to the job.
All these stories are written down for us because they are patterns for a purpose. They are not mere historical bedtime stories but rather they are examples of what God requires us all to go through ourselves. Let me say it again here that I spent 4+ decades in churches that did not teach any of this and instead tried to void it all by only preaching what fed the flesh of their congregations.
Not to give anyone the wrong impression here but, my first exposure to true Kingdom of God teaching was actually a very harsh rude awakening. I did not breeze through it with flying colors and instead I felt like I was being confronted about everything on a very regular basis. Just like all those in the Bible, I had a choice to either be like Judas and turn away from everything and throw it in the trash (along with my eternal salvation) or to go through God‘s brutal process of correction. Just so everyone knows, that process actually never ends while we are here on earth so I don’t want anyone to get the feeling like “I’ve arrived”in any of this.
Enduring Trials Is Required
Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations. And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me; That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Luke 22:28-30 (KJV)
The problem of wrong teaching on this subject in most churches is actually far worse than I’m making it sound. As I experienced myself, since churches mostly don’t teach this brutal correction by God, many people have actually walked down the same path as Judas and are on the way to hell (not even knowing it!) I’m not trying to single out Judas for the horrible choice he made because any of us could just as easily go down that same road.
Actually, until I started learning about God’s requirement that we be tested and proven, I was already way off track and going on the same highway to hell that many others are on. Seriously, to say God made sure to correct and chastise me at every turn is an understatement. If I were to show you all my dreams where He did that to me, you’d see that I’m not exaggerating on this at all!
For those who do not have God speaking to them in the kinds of dreams I’m referring to here, I can say from experience that those people are in very serious trouble. I spent my entire life in churches of many kinds and when God started giving me dreams, I quickly realized how horribly wrong I was about many critical eternal character matters!
True character is forged through harsh trials, tests, and tribulations, especially in those circumstances where we are strongly tempted to take the easy way out and follow our own flesh. There is no shortcut or easy way out here. Jesus had to go through this in the Garden of Gethsemane right before He was arrested and that is the SAME pattern for us!
Wisdom For Business
And Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him. And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them, and said unto them, Ye are spies; to see the nakedness of the land ye are come.
Genesis 42:8-9 (KJV)
Let’s shift this now in the direction of the main focus of this series. I’ve learned from much experience with hundreds of people coming to me through my blogs that many people fail miserably when it comes to this testing process. I’ve seen how easily many do exactly as we are warned in the Bible and become traitors.
In fact, I’ve seen how shockingly weak minded many church people are and how frequently they follow the desires of their flesh at the first chance to go straight off a cliff into their own destruction. I’ve seen people who I gave plenty of time and benefit of the doubt to, just to watch them do what I had hoped they would not. In the end, their behaviors were many times very disappointing.
In the process of watching those far too frequent negative self exposures, I’ve slowly learned that trust must absolutely be verified by a long period of tests and trials. In case anyone wonders, YES, I DO have a very few close friends who have passed through these severe storms and have proved themselves worthy of being trusted by God. As a result, they have had dreams where God has shown them very big earthly and eternal rewards because of their faithfulness and loyalty during His harsh wilderness training program.
Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king’s house, more than all the Jews.
Esther 4:13 (KJV)
When my invention business comes into reality, believe me, I’ve learned a thing or two and you can expect me to do as Joseph did. Just because I try to be friendly and all that, it does NOT mean that you have reached the point with me that I’m going to trust you or that you have earned any status with me. My being nice should never be confused with extending any valuable privileges that must be earned the hard way. Because of how many times I’ve seen people disappoint me (and even knowing my own tendency to have a few character flaws) I already know from the start what to watch out for. I’m not trying to elevate myself here at all!
I’ve had to go through many tests that I really did NOT believe I was going to pass. True! There were times when I really thought I was going to fail in the worst way possible and lose everything I write about here. The severity of those trials and tests can never be understated. Somehow, I barely survived.
Therefore, I do know how hard all this is and what the stakes really are. I have learned to have an appreciation for how hard it is for a human being to go through all this. And… the Biblical pattern cannot be magically waved away by the sleight of hand by some comfort zone deceiving preacher.
This is something we all must go through and failure is not an option if you want to make it through the narrow path to Heaven. If you really grasp what I’m saying, I hope you will take all this seriously. It’s a very hard word but it’s the truth. Time will tell how many go through the process and how many get offended and betray. Jesus warned us about this because it is a very big ugly reality, especially in these last days that we are living in.
And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
Matthew 24:10 (KJV)
