A few weeks ago, I was chatting with a friend who said something I had never heard before. We were discussing how the real life story of a man from 1,700 years ago changed the entire direction of my life in 2009 and ultimately led to my testimony of a space energy invention that I will soon be building. My friend said something very profound about the divine inspiration behind the physical appearance of a modern day mythical representation of a real historical man from long ago. I want to tell you what my friend said and how it reveals something most of us have completely missed about a man we often dismiss as a mere children’s fictional story. I guarantee there is something here you also have never considered about a man we call “Santa”…
A Revelation About “Santa” & The Real Saint Nicholas
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
1 Corinthians 2:14 (KJV)
In the process of talking with a close friend, I mentioned something that hit me about the significance of the life of a real man, Saint Nicholas of Patara. The idea that, for the world to still remember a man who lived 1,700 years ago (albeit in a modern day mythical form), he must have done something very unusual. What stood out to me was that even though we mostly only think of the mythical form of this man (“Santa”) in a red suit with flying reindeer, it does not change the fact that the real Saint Nicholas had to have done something very remarkable for his legacy to carry on this long, regardless of what form it currently takes.
In discussing my thoughts about the real man Saint Nicholas, my friend said something I had never heard before. What she said was so profound, yet simple, and I knew it was a revelation straight from God. She commented about how the physical appearance of “Santa” as an older man with a long white beard and kind personality was an exact description of God the Father, even though we rarely consider it. Here’s what she meant…
We know from testimonies that God has been seen (or frequently imagined) as an older man with a long white beard and meek personality. God is referred to in the Bible as the”Ancient of days” (Daniel 7:9. Daniel 7:13, and Daniel 7:22) which describes Him as an ancient man from outside of our realm of time. Knowing that God (Jehovah) is a father also puts Him in the form of an older man in contrast to Jesus, who is the “son” and thereby a younger man. The physical appearance of Santa (aka “Father Christmas”), although seemingly a concoction by man, is actually divinely inspired.
In the last few years, I have been learning to see many examples of how God has been very directly involved in what happens in society but, because He is very meek, He does things in such a way as to hide the fact that He is the one behind everything. As I considered what my friend said about the parallel in appearance between God the Father and Santa (a modern day representation of Saint Nicholas) I knew that God was the real source of inspiration in how our mythical figure was crafted.
The whole idea of an older man with a kind personality, who keeps a record of people who are good and bad, who does good deeds and gives gifts in secret, is a perfect Biblical description of God the Father.
“Santa Claus” is really a metaphor, by appearance and by character (the heart), of God the Father. The fact that this not so mythical figure just happens to be connected to Christmas, the birth of Jesus, and the time of giving gifts, is yet another perfect “prophetic parallel” between the two figures.
I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.
Daniel 7:9 (KJV)
Saint Nicholas of Patara: Marvel Miracle Worker & Gift Giver
If you are not familiar with the real story of Saint Nicholas of Patara, also known as the Bishop of Myra, you can get all the historical information at the website: Saint Nicholas Center. Upon reading their many pages of information and historical accounts of this man from 1,700 years ago, we find that Saint Nicholas really was a giver of gifts, especially to the poor. Beyond that, there are also accounts that he had marvelic supernatural manifestations to include flying and transporting like Philip in Acts 8:39-40 and in resurrecting the dead as Jesus and the early apostles did.
Even after his death, there are many reports of miracles taking place at the grave of Saint Nicholas by those who visit it. As I say, for a man who lived ages ago, for this much history to be kept about him, plus the modern day mythical representation based on his legacy, something very profound must have happened that led to such a long lasting and positive memory of him.
To further support what I’m saying, here are excerpts from the home page of the Saint Nicholas Center where you can read the history of the real man as it has been gathered from many sources…
A Devout Christian Who Gave To THe Poor
“The true story of Santa Claus begins with Nicholas, who was born during the third century in the village of Patara in Asia Minor. At the time the area was Greek and is now on the southern coast of Turkey. His wealthy parents, who raised him to be a devout Christian, died in an epidemic while Nicholas was still young. Obeying Jesus’ words to “sell what you own and give the money to the poor,” Nicholas used his whole inheritance to assist the needy, the sick, and the suffering. He dedicated his life to serving God and was made Bishop of Myra while still a young man. Bishop Nicholas became known throughout the land for his generosity to those in need, his love for children, and his concern for sailors and ships.
Gifts To The Poor & Stockings By The Fireplace
One story tells of a poor man with three daughters. In those days a young woman’s father had to offer prospective husbands something of value—a dowry. The larger the dowry, the better the chance that a young woman would find a good husband. Without a dowry, a woman was unlikely to marry. This poor man’s daughters, without dowries, were therefore destined to be sold into slavery. Mysteriously, on three different occasions, a bag of gold appeared in their home-providing the needed dowries. The bags of gold, tossed through an open window, are said to have landed in stockings or shoes left before the fire to dry. This led to the custom of children hanging stockings or putting out shoes, eagerly awaiting gifts from Saint Nicholas.
A Miracle Of Supernatural Transport
…Meanwhile, as Basilios was fulfilling his tasks serving the emir [previously captured and taken as a slave], he was suddenly whisked up and away. St. Nicholas appeared to the terrified boy, blessed him, and set him down at his home back in Myra. Imagine the joy and wonderment when Basilios amazingly appeared before his parents, still holding the king’s golden cup. This is the first story told of St. Nicholas protecting children—which became his primary role in the West.
A Dream About A Murder & A Miracle Of Resurrections
Another story tells of three theological students, traveling on their way to study in Athens. A wicked innkeeper robbed and murdered them, hiding their remains in a large pickling tub. It so happened that Bishop Nicholas, traveling along the same route, stopped at this very inn. In the night he dreamed of the crime, got up, and summoned the innkeeper. As Nicholas prayed earnestly to God the three boys were restored to life and wholeness.”

If you have never heard any of these stories of the real Saint Nicholas, this is only a tiny excerpt of the many historical accounts about him. A man so unusual that we still remember him to this day as a miracle worker and gift giver. Now, let’s continue and take a look at comparisons between the characteristics of God, Santa and Saint Nicholas below…
Prophetic Parallels Between Santa & Saint Nicholas
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
James 1:17 (KJV)
In my reading of the historical accounts of the real Saint Nicholas, here are a few parallels between Saint Nicholas and the modern day representation as “Santa”…
| Santa Claus | Saint Nicholas |
|---|---|
| Flies with reindeer | Miracles of supernatural transport |
| Gives gifts | Gave to the poor |
| Gives gifts secretly at night by the fireplace | Gave gifts secretly at night by the fireplace |
| Works many various miracles | Performed miracles of resurrection, calming a storm, rescuing children, received dreams from God, fulfilled the needs of the poor by miraculous provision |
| You must believe in the miracle of Christmas (a true believer) | The kind of faith in God that leads to action and results in miracles |
| Ancient man who transcends time | Miracles recorded after his death, a modern day mythical figure whose legend never dies |
Divine Parallels Between God & Santa
The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.
Psalms 25:9 (KJV)
All throughout the Bible, the similarities in the character and actions of God the Father and Santa can be found. The point in this comparison is to highlight the subtle and very overlooked divine inspiration behind the creation of the mythical figure “Santa”…
| Santa Claus | God (Jehovah) |
|---|---|
| Gifts given in secret | Works in the invisible realm (meekness), the giver of all perfect gifts |
| Must believe in Christmas miracles | Must have faith & trust in God |
| Send him a letter for your requests | “Ask and it shall be given…” |
| Leave cookies & milk to show appreciation for his gifts and visits | “Give and it shall be given…” give tithes and offerings to honor God |
| An older man by appearance with long white beard | Ancient man with long white beard and older appearance as a father |
| Ancient man who has lived hundreds of years | The “Ancient of days” |
| A man who knows everything about everyone and has a list of naughty and nice (gifts versus coal) | The ultimate judge of all upon the end of life and keeps books of the those who will go to heaven and blots out names of those who will go to hell |
| Has elves who do many kinds of miraculous works | Has angels who do many kinds of miraculous supernatural works |
| A humble and meek man | The perfection and origin of a humble and meek heart (character trait) |
| Believed upon by children | Believed upon by those with a humble heart |
Next time you see Santa decorations in stores or in your own home, remember… God the Father was subtly involved in the creation of the modern day characterization of a not so mythical man who lived 1,700 years ago.
A Story That Led To A Global Energy Invention
Next time your kids ask “does Santa really exist?” you can tell them where to find the real story of a real man whose mythical representation mirrors the traits of God the Father. I hope this simple but profound revelation will change the way you see our modern day Christmas celebrations, and especially to know that God is very much behind the physical description of this not so mythical character, created from the story of a real life man whose life was so unusual that we still remember his legacy 1,700 years later.
Had it not been for the real life true story of Saint Nicholas, I may never had been inspired to follow in his footsteps and ultimately receive the technical design for an energy invention that will soon change the world.
Thank you for reading, sharing and supporting my work.
Merry Christmas!!
