Here’s an episode most of you knew was coming. But don’t skip this because, I’m going to include some details you’ve probably never heard before. The significance of how dreams played a part in every aspect of the process I’ve described up to now cannot be overstated. One thing you want to remember is that God has been using dreams at night to reveal clues to your purpose for thousands of years. What He did in Biblical times, He still does today – even for those who do not know or follow Him. Here’s how God used these nighttime parables to put me on the path I’m on now…
To Dream = To Be Prosperous
And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.
Genesis 37:9 (KJV)
In the Bible, the word dream means to receive prophetic visions that ultimately serve to prosper you. Rather than get into a long, in-depth study here, the two links below will give you the starting point. These are the Hebrew words for “dream” with their definition in Strong’s Concordance:
Dreams are parables with symbolism that requires serious study in order to correctly interpret them. It is very much like learning a foreign language. Some people, like myself, were chosen by God to become an interpreter of dreams. I’ve written in years’ past how, over a decade ago, I realized that I had the aptitude to interpret, but until I seriously began studying this new supernatural language, my results were lacking.
Most of my life was lived without any knowledge whatsoever that God speaks to us in our dreams! For the 4+ decades before my supernatural awakening, I could only remember a couple of them (good and bad ones). It was not until around 2011 that God gave me a dream that was so jarring, that I knew it came from Him and I knew what it meant. The dream was horrible and it showed an attitude I needed to correct immediately. It made me almost physically sick for the next 3 days and it served the purpose of delivering me from something I had held onto (in my heart) that would have ultimately cause myself and another person severe long lasting harm.
From that day on, I knew without any doubt, that God still spoke in dreams and I needed to learn how to interpret them – just as Joseph and Daniel had in the Bible. So, that’s exactly what I did!
How I Became A “Dreamer Of Dreams”
Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.
Daniel 5:12 (KJV)
My initiation into God’s foreign language school consisted of me going to a local Christian bookstore to see if they had anything reliable on interpreting dreams. Let me emphasize something here: I knew that it was God who spoke to me in these dreams, not “the universe” or “my subconscious” as many people think. As a result of having the correct foundation, I knew the only way I was going to understand what God was saying, was by going to those He appointed as teachers of this unusual realm.
When I got to that bookstore, I did find several books from 3 different authors and I immediately bought them and read through them many times. I then went looking for more Christians who taught on dreams. For the next several years, I studied very diligently everything that I knew God was leading me to.
But, I had a problem! Although I had been learning about these nighttime parables, I myself was receiving hardly any of them! The more I learned from these prophetic Christian teachers, the more envious I became of the gift God had given them. For instance, I heard how one preacher had so many dreams that it seemed he knew his entire future before it ever happened! For another, he knew what decisions to make and how to know the path God had in store for him.
Others yet gave me the understanding of how God uses dreams to correct us and show us when we are off track and in danger of eternal judgment. It was the most astonishing and eye opening time of my life!
So, how did I go from learning about dreams, but having none of them, to what I have now?? Great question! I used a very simple instruction in the Bible: ASK. I asked God to give me dreams almost every single day for about 2 months. At the end of that time, it was like someone turned on a faucet and I’ve been receiving multiple dreams almost every night ever since.
My Advice, For Your Prosperity!
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Matthew 7:7-8 (KJV)
Some people tell me they do not remember their dreams. In response, I tell them what I did above and how it changed my life in the most astonishing ways. For some people, they don’t get dreams because, until hearing a testimony like mine, they never thought much about it. For others, they were taught an incorrect perspective on dreams and why we get them. There’s something I’ve been learning in recent years about the personality of God. He is a very meek person. That means, He will not impose on you and tell you things if you do not ask Him.
James advises us, “you have not because you ask not” (James 4:2). Considering God’s character of meekness, He really does sometimes wait until we ask Him. If you do not get many dreams, or you do not remember them, my advice is to simply ask Him as many times as you need to until He responds.
While we’re on this subject, there is an unpleasant truth about my culture that we need to hit on briefly. Those like myself in the American culture have been steeped in an attitude of self-centered and excessive independence. There can be some good in that but, in recent times, it has gone out of control and turned into rebellion. We Americans have the same attitude that Frank Sinatra sang about, “I did it MY way”. And that is NOT an attitude God rewards. Unfortunately, this attitude is pervasive even in many of the churches I used to attend!
An attribute of humility is to admit when we are lacking something. You cannot ask God for something if you think you already have everything. Remember the verse, “God resists the proud…” (James 4:6). He doesn’t like to deal with people who are prideful, especially those with spiritual pride.
Be humble and ask God to speak to you in dreams. Do that for as long as it takes until He answers! That’s what I did, and it changed my life in the most astonishing ways. I hope you will do that immediately, even today!
Once you get this done, then we can move on to the next topic: how God shows you clues to your purpose in your dreams.
To be continued…
