Our investigation into a recent mystery begins with a critical mistake made by our detective hero, Sherloque Benoit. Sherloque had just entered into a new phase of a long term project and a confusing piece of evidence came to him in the form of a dream. The dream was about a woman from the distant past. In his desire to see his current situation in only the most positive light, our detective misinterpreted the dream and badly misunderstood what was about to happen. This post is our first discovery session where we will consider a key piece of evidence in our previously mentioned case.

NOTE: After posting the first of our new series, we have decided to expand the scope of writings to include other cases that may come up along the way. Due to the potential sensitivity of certain ongoing cases, we may not always tell which post applies to which case. Regardless, by the time we reach our conclusions, we will try to find a way to let you know which discussion applies to which case.

Having said that, sometimes we also prefer not to give away too much information but rather, to let you figure some things out yourself. It’s not always beneficial to make it too easy for the reader. Now with that, let’s begin our discussion of a piece of evidence that did concern the previously mentioned case…

Dream of A Past Girlfriend

August 31, 2022 – I’m living in a very plain looking apartment, mostly white inside. I just came back from a trip out of town. I get (another) call from an ex-girlfriend in Texas right after I get back inside. I’m talking with her about what’s new and telling her that I was doing something at her local university but, I don’t need another degree because I’m an inventor and I’m working on an invention.  Briefly, I saw a scene of green trees like at her local college campus. At first, the ex-girlfriend is talking with me as normal but then, she suddenly stops and goes quiet on me. I’m thinking it’s late and maybe she fell asleep. Lastly, I’m closing my front door and trying to lock it with some very ineffective lock. I almost left it open all night.

Let’s now walk through the dream and see where our detective made his mistake. First, the setting of the dream involves a local university where the previous girlfriend lived. A university represents a learning situation where you gain new knowledge and experience. But, in this dream, there is a qualifier to the meaning of the university, which has much to do with the ex-girlfriend.

Establishing the Meaning of the Ex-girlfriend

When interpreting dreams of an ex-girlfriend, ex-boyfriend, or ex-spouse, you must consider their personal characteristics and anything else that stands out about them. Many times, when you see a person like this in a dream, it means they are a representation of a different person that you are now dealing with in your present day life.

In the case of this specific ex-girlfriend, a few prominent characteristics came to the mind of our detective. She was talented, smart, attractive and of Hispanic ethnicity. At the time of the dream, our detective stopped at that point in his initial interpretation and that proved to be a serious mistake.

This ex-girlfriend had other personality traits that he never considered. Specifically, she had a habit of frequently telling lies and acting deceptively, especially towards her parents. She would often go out and do things that her parents forbade and then cover it up with a lie. She drank alcohol underage, experimented with drugs and had a tendency to be very loose in her relations with men.

Backing up and ignoring all the above for a minute, the proper interpretation of an ex- should always start with the most obvious fact: the relationship with that person ended for a reason and there was a split. When trying to decide how this metaphorical person relates to a present day association, you should therefore start with the possibility that something very negative may be in the works.

When Sherloque had this dream, he had no reason to suspect that anyone he recently met had these same negative character traits. Failing to see the connection between the ex-girlfriend and a woman he had recently met (for business purposes), he came up with an interpretation that ultimately proved to make no sense and was totally wrong. It was not until about 2 years later that he realized his unfortunate and costly mistake. In his defense, at least he was not quick to jump on a negative conclusion.

Concern Over the Sudden Unexplained Silence

As you can see from the description of the dream, there were other aspects that indicated a problem, particularly that the woman suddenly got quiet on him during the phone call. In the dream, you can see where he passed off the odd silence as assuming she just fell asleep.

Looking back, it is obvious once again that Sherloque had no thought to see anything wrong with the meaning of the woman in the dream. He was oblivious to the idea that the ex-girlfriend represented a real person in his present day associations. Except that… for the next 2 years, he kept wondering why in the dream, she went silent on him in the midst of that phone call (of which she initiated).

Simply put, this part of the dream meant something was not being said by the woman; perhaps even a deliberate concealing of information.

Fast forwarding to the present time, in retrospect, this dream was in fact a warning about someone he was having real life business conversations with. The primary message was that the ex-girlfriend was a warning that something about his new business contact was not right.

As time went on, it became increasingly obvious that there was a very real problem in the works. Unfortunately, even within the first year after the dream, Sherloque never made the connection between the true symbolic meaning of the ex-girlfriend and the current business contact.

Discerning the Meaning of the Local University

That now brings us to the meaning of the local university in the town where the ex-girlfriend lived. A university represents a time of learning and gaining new experiences. Because the university was in the town where the ex-girlfriend lived (and she attended it in real life) it appeared to indicate that the type of learning experience would be a negative one.

In real life (looking back on the last 2 years), that is unfortunately exactly what happened. Sherloque ended up in a very negative situation with the new business contact that could have been avoided by the correct interpretation of the dream. In case you’ve never heard this, experience is not always a friendly teacher.

At this point, we seem to be correct in concluding that the dream points to a warning about the characteristics of a present-day business contact. We are able to confirm, by real life circumstances that took place within the last 2 years, that the new contact was in fact represented by the ex-girlfriend in the dream.

Having now established one key piece of evidence regarding the apparent character of a primary party in our ongoing case, we will move on to consider additional pieces in subsequent discussions.
