If you’re going to carry out God’s assignments in any aspect of your life, you’re going to have to learn how to recognize when He speaks to you. In order for Him to speak to you, you must first learn how to communicate with Him and then secondly, the various ways He will reply. As you might have guessed from the title of this episode, I’m going to focus today specifically on learning to trust the visions that you may receive while you are spending time praying or at any other time of the day. In order to do that, I’m going to tell you about 6 visions I had recently, their interpretation, what I did to receive them and how I have learned to trust they are actually God communicating with me in a very similar manner as with dreams.
For those who remember how I told of my initial extreme difficulty in learning to recognize when God was speaking to me, the fact that I have since developed a prophetic gift in this way should be very inspiring to those who have major hindrances in learning to recognize God’s direct personal communications. My Initial Steep Learning Curve
And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

As a quick recap, in my book, “The Supernatural Science of Reaching Your God-Given Purpose“, I told how I had an extremely hard time recognizing when and how God was speaking to me. I gave the example of a day when I felt like God was nowhere to be found and I drove around feeling completely lost and bewildered. As I was driving, I saw the numbers “5811” on a license plate on the back of a pickup truck that passed me. As soon as I saw that, I had the thought that those numbers were a Bible verse in the book of Isaiah.
When I stopped and looked it up, I was astonished to see the first words in the verse: “the Lord will guide you continually…” I knew right away that this was God sending me a message using the numbers on a license plate. It was His way of confirming that He was in fact speaking to me and I began to understand that I could have confidence in all the many ways He tried to help me out in the midst of my very confusing journey.
Not that my example is directly related to our subject of visions today but, you get the idea of how we must learn to put our faith in God when He is speaking to us, even in ways that we may not be naturally tuned in to. As I’ve said before many times, I spent 40 years in churches that were completely dead. By that, I mean the only thing they offered was a bunch of intellectualized words and crafty sermons but nothing supernatural at all and no direct observable connection with God whatsoever.
When God ultimately convinced me that I had spent my entire life in a spiritual wilderness in these dead mainstream churches, I had a nearly impossible time getting out from the deadness they had programmed me with during all those years. I don’t need to repeat that part of my story here because of how many times I’ve already dealt with it in this series. If you’d like, go back and read just one of my many blogs on that topic here…
Now, with that brief introduction to today’s subject of the reality of how God can guide us through our daily lives, let’s get specifically to the subject of receiving and interpreting divine visions.
Discerning The Imagination From The Divine
But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

When I first began learning how God speaks in dreams (in 2011), I also began learning how He will do the same by visions while we are awake. At first, the idea of getting visions while I was awake seemed like a quantum leap beyond anything I was capable of. My biggest challenge at that time was in discerning how to know when an image in my mind came from God and not from my imagination.
I had always had a pretty good imagination and I had no problem coming up with images in my mind. I suppose that comes from my creative side as a developing artist. When I began my supernatural journey, I learned that God could use the images in our mind to speak to us, just as He did with the prophets in the Bible. So now, I had a new problem because as far as I knew, anything that came into my mind was of my own making. This now meant that I had to go through a difficult process of sorting out how to know when an image came from God rather than from me! At that time in my life, as far as I knew, almost everything I saw in my mind was mostly from me!
I can say that this new process was equally as difficult as learning to solve differential equations in college level calculus 2! Thankfully, one day God gave me some help in learning how to know when an image in my mind came from Him. Here’s what happened…
I was visiting my family in New York at a time when I was still in the Air Force and assigned to a base out of state. I was out walking around the neighborhood near a relative’s house and a sudden image of a scene from several years earlier popped into my mind. The scene was of an actual experience I had when I drove from Texas to Nevada in January for a short term Air Force assignment. While driving through New Mexico, I went through a stretch of highway where high winds blew snow across the road and several cars had gone out of control and ended up off the road. Traffic came to a very slow pace until we passed through the hazardous conditions.
While walking around the neighborhood, I began wondering why this sudden memory came back to me. I considered this memory for a while and I began wondering if this was from God because of how abruptly it just popped into my mind. A few days later, I got my answer. On the day that I was getting ready to drive from New York back to my base in Virginia, a very big snowstorm blew through Western New York and it shut down the highway that I was supposed to take that morning.
After realizing that I needed to find an alternate route for the 12 hour drive back, I began to realize that the image of my New Mexico highway experience was in fact from God and it was a prophetic vision. That sudden memory in my head was God’s way of telling me prophetically about the coming winter storm that was about to shut down a highway on my trip a few days later.
Initial Confidence Inspired!
Where there is no vision [a sight, prophecy (divine communication)], the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

This was the first time I can remember where God gave me a vision that turned out to be a prophetic message that was really from Him. This was amazing to me because now I knew for a fact that I was actually capable of receiving visions that came directly from God while I was wide awake. This was very inspiring!
Based on that early experience, I now had the confidence that I could pursue getting more visions from God. However, I still had a very steep uphill mountain to climb before I was able to sort out the difference between a vision from God and just my own imagination. From that point, it was several more years before I slowly became comfortable with knowing the difference between my imagination, and a real God given vision. Fast-forwarding to today, I am now fairly comfortable with receiving visions from God and I have even learned what to do so that I am in a receptive state so God can speak to me in this way.
Without filling in all the details of my journey, let me now go straight to an experience I had recently where I received 6 visions successively within less than a one hour period of time. This was the first time I had ever received so many visions all at once and it happened because I put myself in a position where God could speak to me in that way. Once you finish reading the below account of my visions, it should help you realize that it really is possible to learn to receive visions from God that actually have a real meaning to you at the time.
Six Visions In One Morning?!
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Before we get to the visions, let me tell you what I did in order to deliberately receive so many of them. I want to emphasize that these visions did not just pop into my head by themselves but rather, I deliberately put myself in a mental “position” so that I would be receptive. Here’s what I did…
- This was in the early morning hours, around 5:00 AM (although any other time of the day would work equally well).
- I had not yet gotten up out of bed and I had Christian music playing to set the right spiritual atmosphere (see examples: my music playlist).
- I had my eyes closed and I focused my mind in the general sense on God and I prayed in tongues.
- I did NOT repeat Bible verses in my mind (not that there’s anything wrong with that).
- Instead, I just focused my thoughts on being receptive to whatever God wanted to communicate to me.
- I tried to keep my mind clear from any thoughts that I knew might come from me.
Prior to this, I was having feelings of anxiety creep up about my living situation and when God was going to come through for me (especially financially) and when He was going to get me and my wife out from where we were living. Keep this last part in mind when you read my first vision below because you will see how God answered me first about that before He went on to “speak” to me in this metaphoric way about other subjects.
Six Visions With Interpretations
Now that you have the basic idea of how I “positioned” myself to receive visions, now I can tell you God showed me. The following are all 6 visions I received while praying in tongues in December 2025…
- Vision: I’m in the front passenger seat of a car that is stopped with the door open, I’m looking outside at the ground and I see a winter hat laying on the ground.
Interpretation: God is the unknown / unseen driver who is leading me in my life’s journey. The open door shows that my anxious mindset was causing me to get out of faith in God’s leading. The winter hat on the ground means that I need to maintain a mindset of peace / comfort which comes by trusting what God is doing in my life, despite how things look according to real life negative circumstances. This vision was in response to my anxiety just a few minutes before as I mentioned above. - Vision: I’m at a gas station, watching lots of vehicles getting gas at the pumps. A short old style van drives off to the right from the pump. I had the thought it was medical van.
Interpretation: Fuel can represent an anointing or any type of provision / inspiration needed to continue in any variety of circumstances. Driving to the right generally means going by faith. In real life, I have a friend who has a calling as a pastor / prophet with a healing ministry. He is short and stocky and often jokingly refers to himself as “old”. Based on my knowledge of the friend, I understood this means that he will receive something needed to continue in his current or future assignment. The vision did not specify exactly what my friend would receive, just that something good and necessary will happen soon. - Vision: I’m standing next to my car, looking inside from the driver’s side, all the lights / displays are lit up inside on the dashboard, indicating that the car is started up and running.
Interpretation: In real life, my car has a dead battery and is incapable of being turned on or started but, I am expecting this situation to be corrected very soon. In the symbolic sense, I have been needing some inspiration and significant financial provision to get going with God’s plans for me at this next stage of life so that I can continue making progress according to God’s plan and purpose. - Vision: I’m walking around in a small store that has light bulbs hanging down from the ceiling, the lights suddenly all go off and there’s natural daylight coming in through the windows which I like much better.
Interpretation: In this context, the light bulbs represent ideas “illumination” that are man made / of the world and therefore distractions; in contrast, the natural lighting represents ideas and inspiration that comes from God along with a peaceful mindset. The store setting represents the part of my life where I am searching for things I need, including literal shopping. This is about me not getting distracted by worldly dissonant thoughts but to instead stay in a mindset of peace for receiving direction by the Spirit. In real life, I generally prefer natural lighting (or dim lighting) to artificial man made lights because it gives me a greater sense of peace of mind; harsh bright lights do not put me in a positive mindset. This is a follow up to vision # 1 above. - Vision: I’m on a ski lift at a big mountain ski resort overlooking a ski run where I see a guy riding on something very fast (maybe a snowmobile) and he is going up the mountain at a very fast pace.
Interpretation: This is about me making fast progress by faith, especially in the context of receiving all these visions and what I did to put my mind in the right “positioning”; this is also the second time I have seen this same type of vision, the first time was a couple weeks ago when I had a dream of a very similar scene. In the natural sense, I am a huge fan of winter and skiing; normally when I have a dream in this general setting, it means I am doing the right things and making good progress. - Vision: I see an older woman with short curly grey hair looking at me.
Interpretation: Several hours later in real life, I saw a woman with very similar appearance on a Hallmark movie that I watched: “Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story“. This woman was the subject of a plot where the main characters were looking for a mystery person who had been giving gifts to someone anonymously for many years. The significance of this vision could be twofold: 1) a confirmation that God wanted me to see that movie, and 2) a reminder that my long awaited financial provision is coming so that the invention business can begin and all other personal matters will be taken care of as well.
The Big Picture – Notice The Common Theme
Taking a step back now from all 6 visions, you can see a common theme among them. Each of these deals with staying in faith and a good mindset and expecting something good to happen soon. These all have a simple positive message in the same way that my license plate experience did at the top of this episode. Several of these visions are prophetic to certain degrees and indicate something good to be watching for in real life.
As I said regarding the second vision (and alluded to for all the others), when you can’t be sure exactly what a vision is showing in a specific sense, just keep an open mind and be watching for something that fits the general interpretation to happen in whatever way God was hinting at. Never try to force fit an interpretation according to what you want it to be. If you do, you’ll find yourself in a cycle of repeating aggravations that will ultimately lead to a personal prophetic shipwreck (been there…)
NOTE: Dreams and visions are like prophecy – they are partial (1 Corinthians 13:9) and do not contain a complete volume of information. That is why they can be likened to a “word” of knowledge (not a book of knowledge). Always remember that these are God’s way of giving you one piece of a much larger puzzle. The way you get the rest is by asking Him for more insight and by watching how real life events play out. The more you practice this, the better you will get at receiving and understanding what God is saying to you in this manner.
You Can Do This!
And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance, And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:

And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
In summary, this is the first time I have ever received so many visions that I know came from God and they pointed directly to real life situations ongoing at the time. I received these because I went after them in faith, knowing that God could (and would) speak to me in this way and that it would be relevant to my life in some ways.
I did not force them to come but, I went into this with a sense that God would communicate with me in this way if I put my mind in the right position. I felt that this marked a new step for me in having the confidence in my ability to receive visions that were from God with a relevant message pertaining to various aspects of my life at the time.
Looking back to the beginning of this episode, this shows an amazing degree of progress in a spiritual gift that I have wanted for a long time. Remember how I initially had an impossible time knowing how to discern God’s guidance in any area of my life and now I am freely able to sense when He is speaking to me, especially in this realm of prophetic visions.
When the time is right, I could follow up this episode by telling you how I have been able to confirm when thoughts, ideas and inspirations I have received were likewise from God.
