Faith That Actually Works: Why Most People Never Get There

You believe God is real. You’ve accepted that. But here’s the harder question — do you truly believe He will heal you, provide for you, and work miracles in your specific situation? For most believers, that’s where faith breaks down. Not in theology, but in personal application. I’ve said before that I spent 40 years in churches only to find out that I had developed absolutely NO faith whatsoever that God would actually do anything He promised in the Bible. Today, I want to tell you a little more about how I learned what faith really means and how it has changed my life.

‘Demonic Faith’: The Counterfeit Version of Believing God

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

James 2:19-20 (KJV)

There’s a critical distinction that most people never examine. Believing that God exists is one thing. Believing that He will personally intervene in your finances, your health, your relationships, and your business — that’s a completely different thing. Faith requires action and it is required on YOUR part.

Hebrews 11:6 says that whoever comes to God must believe not only that He exists, but that He rewards those who diligently seek Him. That second part is where many people stop short. It also says that without faith, there is NOTHING you can do to please God.

The devil knows this, and it’s exactly where the attack on your faith is most concentrated. But most people don’t see that the devil is actively involved in destroying their faith. And that’s because most people have never studied who and what the devil really is and how he operates. Well… I have and I can tell you that he is very strategic and very subtle. Let’s start with one of the top places you can find the evidence of his work in my western culture…

The Brain Is Wired Against Faith

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)

Modern science actually helps us understand the problem. The human brain is wired for evidence-based reasoning. It is designed to trust what it can see, measure, and predict. Faith, by definition, operates in exactly the opposite direction. Hebrews 11:1 calls faith “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things NOT seen.”

That puts your faith in direct conflict with your own neurology every single day. Add to that what psychologists call negativity bias — the brain’s built-in tendency to give more weight to bad outcomes than good ones — and you can begin to see why expectant faith is an uphill climb for most people. This is not an excuse. It is an explanation — and understanding the obstacle is the first step to overcoming it.

Although I did not write my newest book, Independent Mind, for spiritual reasons, it is the principles I included in it that got me to where I am today. In that book, you can find the practical tools I learned to use which ultimately led me down the path of overturning all the anti-faith I was programmed with in my culture and the very popular but completely dead churches I used to attend.

Culture Is Working Against You 24 Hours a Day

Western materialist culture trains people from childhood to distrust the supernatural. That conditioning runs constantly — through education, media, social pressure, and the daily reinforcement of a world that only validates what it can measure. When you step out in faith for something miraculous, you are swimming upstream against a current that has been running your entire life. Social pressure adds another layer: admitting that you are believing God for a miracle invites skepticism and mockery, so many people suppress their expectation even internally. You can’t fully exercise faith you’re afraid to voice.

This was a very big problem for me to overcome. I was still in the Air Force when I discovered that the supernatural was still valid today. At that time, I was confronted by the reality that my entire working life had been spent in professional environments where belief in the unseen realm of miracles might brand you a wacko. My supernatural awakening, as I call it, led me to realize how strongly my western culture is opposed to any real faith in God to perform miracles of any kind in our lives. This is a major theme that runs through my 100+ episodes of The Secret Life of A Supernatural Entrepreneur.

What Theology Did to Your Faith Without You Knowing It

Many sincere believers were taught, directly or indirectly, theologies that quietly destroy expectant faith. But, it’s not like churches put up a big sign on their front lawn telling you to “come in here and we will kill your faith”. Nope, it’s not that obvious — it’s far more strategic. I wrote in my book, Marvel Dream Revelations, that the devil is the one who runs churches that destroy your faith. It’s not done overtly, it’s done by crafty intellectualized, flesh-feeding rationalizations that make you feel comfortable with doing nothing. Basically, it’s a spiritual poison that puts you to sleep. Just a couple ways this plays out every Sunday in churches all across western countries…

Cessationism — the doctrine that miracles ended with the apostles — is taught in many mainstream churches and creates a ceiling on what a person will ever dare to believe for. This is what was done to me for 40 years of my life and you can read my Supernatural Entrepreneur series to learn how I overcame that false theological prison.

A “sovereignty-only” framework, where God simply does whatever He wills regardless of your faith, removes you from the equation entirely and eliminates the motivation to believe specifically and persistently. This is what the above cessationists believe — if you get a disease, have a car accident, or lose a family member, it must be “God’s will”. There is never any thought about the many promises of miracles or victory, just passive acceptance of negative outcomes.

Learned Helplessness — The Prayer That Seemed to Go Unanswered

And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

Matthew 21:22 (KJV)

Here is one that hits close to home for almost everyone. Psychologist Martin Seligman identified a condition he called learned helplessness — when a person or animal has experienced repeated situations where their actions produced no results, they eventually stop trying altogether, even when the situation changes and results are possible.

Many believers have quietly entered a state of learned helplessness with God. They prayed earnestly. They believed with everything they had. And what they asked for did not come — at least not in the way they expected, or on the timeline they hoped for. That wound, if left unaddressed, becomes a wall. It doesn’t announce itself as unbelief. It shows up as low expectations, hedged prayers, and faith that asks but doesn’t really expect to receive.

Just last week, I had a conversation with someone who practices a false religion. He effectively complained that, “if God was real, then what about all these evil things going on in the world…” I told him in reply that you cannot over simplify things like this. Every single situation you encounter in life where something goes wrong, we need to look at that in detail to find out the reason why it may have gone the way it did.

What I have discovered in my years of learning what true faith is, is that if you really want the answers to the big questions, you need to get serious and go after them. God rewards those who DILIGENTLY seek Him — He does not reward those who CASUALLY seek Him. In doing this myself, I have discovered the proof that any question you have, if you take it to God persistently, you WILL get the answer. I have seen this play out even in situations where I really had doubts that God was actually going to answer me.

Shame, Identity, and the Hidden Question Underneath It All

Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Romans 3:28 (KJV)

Here is the one most people will never admit out loud: deep down, many believers don’t feel like they deserve a miracle. Many of us know we are far from perfect but we are rarely taught that faith is almost never contingent on your level of righteousness. In fact, the Bible plainly states that the righteous are those who live by faith!

From my experience, I think most of us have a quiet inner voice that says, “Who am I that God would do this specifically for me?” That voice doesn’t sound like doubt. It sounds like humility. But it is one of the devil’s weapons against believers. Your worthiness is not the variable. The faithfulness of God is the variable — and that never changes.

The Real Enemy of Your Faith

Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.

Hebrews 11:33-34 (KJV)

The primary target of spiritual opposition is not your peace, your finances, or even your health — it is your faith. Because faith is the currency of the Kingdom of God. Everything you receive from God comes through it. Fear, doubt and unbelief are the opponents of faith.

But how are you ever going to have true faith in God when you’ve been programmed against it by your church, your culture, and your intellectualized educational background? I can tell you how you develop true faith because I’ve been living it every day of my life ever since my 2011 supernatural awakening. God put me in what I refer to as His ancient training program where developing true faith is the only way to survive.

I have written extensively about this in my Marvel Dream Revelations book — there you can discover how to develop the level of faith to work the kinds of miracles that will change the world, not just your own life.

Restoring Ancient Faith

Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

Jude 1:3 (KJV)

In one of the books of the Bible that many overlook, Jude makes a strange comment that hardly anyone really understands. He says that we must contend for a kind of faith that was once given to the saints, but was lost — even at the time of the early church. The early apostles began to understand that there was an ancient form of faith that was given but it had been lost long ago (and this was 2,000 years ago, just after Jesus was taken up into Heaven).

The reality is that true faith is not a light switch. It is a muscle — and like any muscle, it must be exercised consistently to grow. And the level of exercise and training we must go through to develop this kind of faith has been grossly understated by modern day churches.

I have discovered by my experience that there is a severe training deficit in the area of faith in modern churches. True Christianity means you don’t just believe God exists and that Jesus died on the cross for your sins. NO! That is not what the Bible defines as faith. True Christianity means that you believe and step out in faith on every single miracle seen in the Bible — and then more on top of it!

True Christianity is marked by a life that looks nothing like western culture — in fact as it is today, it will directly OPPOSE it. That is what I have experienced since 2011. I have done the hard work to throw off the false anti-faith programming of my culture and the churches I used to attend. I had to unlearn the many severe hindrances they put in my mind and relearn what it meant to really have true faith in God to the point that miracles happen in my life in every area where I, or others, need them.

True ancient Biblical faith is not easy. It’s a fight, it’s a battle and it’s even a war. I have experienced it and I have learned much from it. What I have done, you can also.

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

1 Timothy 6:12 (KJV)
